How long have you been playing WoW?
I started a little before the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj event, maybe November of 2005. I didn’t heavily play until Burning Crusade was released. I’ve also stopped playing the game twice, once before Wrath launched because of exams and a full time summer job (it was permanent nights, my body didn’t know how to react), and once just before ICC opened up again because of exams and things related to college.
How did you start playing WoW?
Friends at the time were playing, and peer pressure kicked in for me to try it out. Worst decision ever. 😀
Favorite race/class/spec?
Orcs. Warriors. Tank. Though I’m really starting to like Brewmaster Monks, and I’m inevitably going to try every tanking role, because it’s my favourite role. I just like being punched in the face by bosses so others won’t be.
Why Darkwind?
Blame Bakey. 😀
No, really. The guy seriously would not stop talking about Darkwind for the past few years, during my “I’m NEVER going back to WoW” phase. He was wearing me down over time, and I’m willing to admit that now. It’s just REALLY hard to keep saying no for two years of him going “dude. Warriors are good again. Tanking is more fun now. Bosses are challenging. Darkwind is awesome and you should join us. Do it. Come on. Join us. It’ll be fun. You’ll enjoy it.”
Then I started playing again, and tried desperately to hold to my Horde roots. Then the friends I rejoined WoW to play with stopped playing, and I followed Bakey here. No regrets.
If Blizzard were to shut down all servers tomorrow, what game are you playing?
League of Legends, Battlefield 4, Civilization 5, one of any of the 170 some odd games I own on Steam.
One awesome memory you have from WoW?
First time my Horde guild took down Kel Thuzad in Naxx in Wrath. Just the progression we took to get to that point, the fact it was before lockout extensions (which came out a WEEK later), so we really had to motor through the wings. It was a lot of fun.
What’s your favorite thing to do in game?
Raiding, progression content, and generally tanking things. If I’m not being punched in the face, I have no idea what to do with my time. :p
What random event would you like to see Darkwind do?
Honestly, no clue. Dodgeball during the fifth anniversary was pretty hilarious, so a comeback of that would be interesting.
What do you do for a job? What would you rather be doing for a job?
I think at this point people have heard me talk about this on Mumble, but I’m a medical laboratory technologist. I run every blood or other body fluid sample that is taken, testing for anything from the basic electrolytes, glucose, cholesterol, to the more nuanced differential of white cells to potentially diagnose diseases like leukemia. There’s also the issuing of blood and blood products for transfusion to keep people living. 85% of diagnoses a doctor comes to are aided, in part or in full, by the work I do. It’s a rewarding, if sombre, job.
In all honesty, I’m pretty happy with my job. I can’t see myself doing anything different. I would love to get off shift work, but that isn’t happening for a while yet.
Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses or 1 horse sized duck?
100 duck sized horses. Ducks are fierce. They’re related to geese, and Canada geese are just the worst things to have in your way. I wouldn’t want one the size of a horse attacking me.
If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?
Roast beef, yorkshire puddings, roasted potatoes, carrots, beans, and EVERYTHING doused in a rich beef gravy.
Though it’s been years since I’ve cooked ANY of that, so… hmm.
